Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. Refrigerants are liquids stored in your air conditioner’s coils that cool and dehumidify indoor air. Without refrigerants, air conditioning would not be possible. For years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will no longer be legal to produce R-22 as a result of its negative effects on the environment. Introducing R-410A To reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and doesn’t contain chlorine, which means it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel good about using this refrigerant in La Puente because it’ll help make your AC work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was built before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You probably should think about upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is totally unavailable. The old refrigerant will become scarce in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Temp Air System Inc work with R-410A, so you can rest assured we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. You should also refrain from using”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
